Waketober Fest

Posted on 13 August 2010 by Louisiana Wakeboarding

“The Original, Largest & Longest Running Lake Lifestyle Event in Texas”

360°Wake

Source: 360°Wake

The dates have been set for this year’s addition of this 12 year Austin tradition. On October 22-24, people from all “walks of wake” (wakeboard, wakeskate & wakesurf) will converge to Pace Bend Park to celebrate all that embodies the wonderful world of wake. For the last 12 years all of the area’s top boat dealers have joined up with 360°Wake (formerly the 360 Wakeboard Club) to put on one of the most unique events in the large state of Texas. Waketoberfest 2010 should prove to be one of the biggest and best to date!! With the water levels being way above where they were last year and many more sponsors jumping on board from outside of the industry we are expecting BIG numbers of event attendees and A LOT more fun… if that’s possible.

Once again the event will be held at Kate & Johnson coves in Pace Bend Park. This year there will be a kid/family fun area filled with activities to keep the little ones happy. All of our sponsors will have their products on display and for sale with a lot of vendors having huge end of season blow outs, giving attendees an opportunity to save big on this season’s gear. As always, a good number of people will camp at the park in everything from tents to small RV’s and tour buses to enjoy all three days of lake fun while everyone else is invited to come out for the official activities on Saturday the 23RD. We will have the tournament on Saturday morning starting around 11am and it will last most of the day. The schedule isn’t out yet but usually the Wakeboard contest runs first, followed by wakeskate and then surf.

Waketoberfest started small at Emma Long Park on Lake Austin attracting a few hundred people but eventually out grew that location and was forced to move to our new home at Pace Bend Park. Even in the festival’s early years some of the world’s top professional riders would make their way to Austin, Texas to ride on the beautiful waterways and compete in the annual contest held on the Saturday morning of the event. Many local or non-pro riders would get their chance to ride against “the big boys” and sometimes even David would beat Goliath in front of a couple thousand screaming fans. Some of today’s top pro riders got their start riding in the Waketoberfest competition. One of the most notables was when local rider Tom Fooshee went head to head with SoCal pro Ricky Gonzales and local World Champion (and one of the event’s founders) Billy Garcia to take the top cash prize. Now Fooshee is one of wakeboard manufacturer Liquid Force’s top riders and flies all over the world competing in the sport.

It’s FREE admission to the public so come enjoy the calm, clear waters of our private lake for the day; we know you’ll have a great time!

Hotels & Accommodations:

We have (2) great hotel options that are close to the lake:

*If you have an RV and need hook-ups then you can contact Boomtown USA (5 minutes from SETx) and they can get you set-up with a nice water-front spot on the Boomtown lake. They have waterfront cabins for rent as well!

*The Neches River & Boomtown are both less than 15 minutes from SETx. They both accommodate wakeboard boats very nicely.

Location & Detailed Directions to the SETx Lake:

SETx is off-the-beaten path so to speak. We don’t have a registered address (YET) so we’re not exactly “GPS friendly.” (We’re workin’ on that but in the meantime…) Rose City Sand is the closest location to SETx so here is their address:

1500 Freeway Boulevard
Vidor, TX 77662

The SETx lake is about 1/2 mile off of Ih-10 westbound, (behind Rose City Sand.) Use the address listed above and you’ll be in the ball-park for sure!

From Lake Charles you’ll take the #859 exit. Once on the access road you’ll see a sign on the right for Rose City Sand. You should see a small SETx sign as well, this is where you turn RIGHT onto a gravel/dirt road. Follow that road about 1/2 mile and we’re the 2nd lake on the LEFT. You’ll enter through a red metal gate and you’re there!

From Houston, you’ll take the #860 exit for “Bonner Turnaround”. Once on the access road, take your first available U-TURN. Once on the access road (headed westbound) you’ll see a sign on the right for Rose City Sand. You should see a small SETx sign as well, this is where you turn RIGHT onto a gravel/dirt road. Follow that road about 1/2 mile and we’re the 2nd lake on the LEFT. You’ll enter through a red metal gate and you’re there!
